South America

Ride 2006/2007

January 21
I sit here in the lobby of this quaint little hotel that we've found in San Carlos Bariloche, Argentina looking out the window at snow-capped mountains rising above a beautiful lake. It is exactly the unique hotel your looking for when you want to experience the local culture right down to the creaking wooden floors. I have been told that the farther south I get the more European things become. I've never been to Europe, but things are changing and I'll bet it is European? I know we've already had to buy an adapter for our power supply to the laptops. I'm sure there will be other adjustments too.

The temps today ranged from the upper 50's to the lower 70's. The highways were very quiet until we reached Lago Nahuel Huapi National Park in Argentina. Then it became very similar to Colorado in the amount of traffic and small tourists shops along the highway. It is not what I'm looking for in an adventure ride. I definitely like to stay away from the tourist areas. However, it was short lived and we soon arrived in town for a night's rest. The border crossing was simple and painless.

It was a very large lake

That is San Carlos de Bariloche at the bottom of the snow capped mountains

Moto-discovery (Pancho Villa) tours got to town the same time we did. They had shipped to Santiago and left two days before us. They were taking gravel roads mostly and looked like they had been following Joel Watson they were so dusty.

This is confusing? I didn't see anything like this in the other countries

Enjoying the lobby. It is so much nicer sitting here versus being in Santiago waiting on moto repairs.
