Ride 2006/2007

January 19
I'm at the BMW shop now and I have bad news. The earliest they can get me out of here is on Monday afternoon. We're still not sure what role the warranty is going to play. There are two problems. The first one is that I'm losing gearbox fluid from somewhere and that will take Monday to fix. The second problem is the rear differential has "play" in it and it is scaring the housing around the U-joints. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

I'm having a tough time getting the warranty to work. They are demanding a bill-of-sale from Plano stating when the bike was purchased. Mike is the salesman that sold the bike to Dan, but Mike no longer works there. I talked to Merrin (service manager) and he's going to talk to sales to see if they can get me a copy faxed directly to the BMW shop. It's pretty obvious it's a new bike, but they have to have their paperwork? A title doesn't help at all, and BMW's records don't help either?

Update: Merrin talked to one of his contacts with BMW and he speaks spanish. Apparently, it has worked. They came out and told me that BMW called and they have resolved any issues, plus they have a differential in stock and can have me running by 6 this afternoon. That will be great! Thanks a whole hell-of-a-lot Merrin. If this is true, I'll damn sure be a happy camper!

Further update: Ok, sure enough, I have possession of the bike and it feels good so far. We'll test ride it tomorrow south to Osorno or so. We'll see how it goes.
