South America

Ride 2006/2007

January 17
As we go farther south, it seems that I'm seeing less and less people and more and more highway, therefore the pictures are more of the highway settings than they are of the people and culture. We'll see if that changes?

We covered a lot of ground today, but that is mostly because we were fortunate with a lot of open highway. In fact, we went 240 miles between towns today. I'm certainly glad I have 8.7 gallons of fuel capacity, because that is a long way to travel between services

We're in Copiapo, Chile right now and it is a nice size town with good facilities. I discovered a noise in my transmission/rear-drive about 100 miles back. Dick thinks it is some sort of bearing? I felt of the rear drive and nothing seems to be hot. We hope we can limp it in to Santiago to the nearest BMW dealer. It is about 600 miles away. We'll see what tomorrow holds.

Little boats miles from nowhere

Scenery

Can you find the plane? You just don't see many of those.

Antofagasta is a modern little city. Can you see the McDonalds?

I didn't have to stop here, but after traveling a 1000+ miles across the desert, it's good to see something you recognize.

Beaches

You don't see road signs very often, and it's not good when they are for the opposite traffic. Am I going the wrong way?

This hand is in the middle of nowhere.

Where's Dick?

Oncoming traffic can be wide sometimes

My GPS said 129 miles until the next turn, and I don't doubt it.

Rolling on

Lots of water
