Ride 2006/2007

January 12
I would like to Thank everyone for the feedback and support that I have received. I like taking the pictures and posting for my own use as well as share with others. On my next trip I hope to go a little slower and take better pictures, but I have too many miles to cover to stop for every photo. I know they can't be as good as possible, but they still give you an idea of what I see everyday.

Today was much like any other day, I got lost to start the day. Whatever you do, don't follow me. I can't understand a map, gps, or directions obviously. We spent close to two hours going in the right direction, but on some bad roads. The road always seems fine up until the time it turns gravel. Sometimes we muttle through and other times we turn around. Today, we turned around and started over. It was still fun.

The rest of the day was full of desert and winds. The desert lifestyle shows to be tough on some, but I guess it's all they know. The temps today were mostly in the 80's. It felt warm through the desert and cool again when we got close to the ocean. We're in Chimbote now. It's not a real nice town, but it's on the water's edge and we have a decent hotel that is very old. They have some sort of rally taking place outside that has music and speakers. I'm not sure what it is. The town is very busy.

A detour, no problem

hmmm? I guess they haven't gotten around to increasing the bridge

Seem like friendly folks

Uh oh, why am I on gravel again?

I would hate to be the one that has to climb these trees for the coconuts.

More gravel road. I wonder if I'm on the wrong road.

no habla ingles? I guess I'll have to find directions elsewhere

This little piggy is going to market

Back on the right road.....I think

Notice the diesel or oil under the truck. This can make a bad road hazard and can happen more than you realize

Apparently, it's this guy's job to keep the sand scooped off the highway. I don't think he can scoop it fast enough

The cities are always busy.

It is very unusual to see anything flying. This guy is making lots of noise

If you look close you can see the sand blowing across the highway. I couldn't take pictures in the worst areas.

Desert living is a rough lifestyle

Mounds of sand are right on the road

These oxen are working the rice fields
A tunnel through the mountain
