We are having a small get-together to share and enjoy past and future international travel at a small office in Prosper. It is a small office (non-smoking) so please RSVP so I can be sure and have enough refreshments on hand (non-alcoholic). Click here to RSVP
 

The afternoon's schedule:

  • Meet and Greet: 3:00 to 3:30
    (this will include introductions and a brief motorcycling history)
  • Rob Day's presentation on his recent trip: 3:30 till 4 or 4:30 (Rob's info is below)
  • Questions, answers and a general exchange of info: 4:30 till 5 or so
 

Rob Day has been kind enough to offer his presentation from his recent trip. We will have a TV sized screen to view Rob's photos as he presents his experience. A general description on his presentation:

Main goal - to ride from Greece to Beijing, China, for the 2008 Olympic
Games. Not achieved, due to the extremely high deposit of Euro 24k for each
motorcycle to enter China.

Countries traveled:
First trip to Greece to attend riders get together: UK, France, Italy,
Greece, Austria, Germany, Holland, Belgium, UK
Side trip while waitng for the ride from Greece to start: UK, Eire, Northern
Ireland, Isle of Man, UK
Main ride: UK, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Austria, Italy,
Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan,
Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, UK.

Days away from home:
Departed the US on April 9th and returned on September 18th. 163 days.

Miles ridden: 26668

Highlights:
The freezing cold and wind at the Nordkapp in June - wondering what the
place is like in Winter?
The FIM Rally in Greece.
Riding with 50 other riders and police escorts in Turkey, Georgia,
Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Swimming in the Black and Caspian seas.
The stark contrast of leaving Azerbaijan and arriving, by ferry, in
Turkmenistan.
The heat, maximum seen, 45C/113F in Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
Riding on dirt (rutted and sandy) roads in Kazakhstan for 2 days straight -
and learning how heavy a fully loaded GS Adventure gets after dropping it
more than a dozen times.
The friendly faces and people in Russia and the Ukraine - when I was
traveling alone.
The somberness of the WWII prison camp at Krackow in Poland.
How good it is to be back in the Metroplex.

Directions from Dallas: Go North on the Dallas North Tollway. it ends at Hwy 380 but continue North on Dallas North Parkway to the first four-way stop sign (Prosper Trail) and turn right. Go east (just across the railroad tracks) to Coleman and turn right.

Directions from Denton: Go east on Hwy 380 to Dallas North Parkway (where tollway ends) and turn left. Continue North on Dallas North Parkway to the first four-way stop sign (Prosper Trail) and turn right. Go east (just across the railroad tracks) to Coleman and turn right.
